Albuquerque Academy loop: 3.45 miles
Arroyo del Oso Golf Course loop: 3.75 miles
Bear Canyon Arroyo spur: 2.00 miles out and back

Academy & Wyoming

In this image we are looking eastward up Academy just before intersection of with Wyoming.  In the background is Sandia Mountain.  This is where all the fun begins and ends.  The route starts here, going south along Wyoming.

Not far from the start running south along Wyoming, is a sculpture of a girl contemplating a butterfly.

Wyoming & Bear Canyon Arroyo

The Bear Canyon trail crosses Wyoming Blvd and continues westward.  Some people may prefer to cross at one of the traffic signals conveiently located a short distance north and south along Wyoming.

Route Description

  • This route begins running south on Wyoming from Academy.

  • A little more than ½ mile down Wyoming, just past Spain Rd, turn east on Bear Canyon Arroyo. 

  • Follow the Bear Canyon Arroyo trail for about a mile, until it intersects with Eubank Blvd.

    This is the turnaround point. Run back, cross Wyoming and keep on the asphalt trail until you reach the end of Arroyo del Oso Golf Course. This downhill segment is approximately 2.7 miles.

  • At the end of the golf course, the trail will bear north for a short distance and connect with Academy Rd.

  • This is the beginning of an uphill segment of 2.3 miles. Run east on south side of Academy, until you reach Wyoming.  At Wyoming cross to the north side of Academy and continue east until you reach Ventura Ave.

  • Follow Ventura Ave north past the Huffmantown Church, until you reach Harper Rd.

  • Follow Harper west until you reach Wyoming.

  • Take Wyoming south back to Academy and finish
